Society has taken a shift in consciousness about how one views his/her health and wellness. The old adage "Health is Wealth" is definitely the mantra for this particular time in our history of events.
Herbal Teas and hot drinks have always been the go to reserve for detoxing the body or helping to holistically manage colds and build up the immunity. Herbal teas are often made with herbs or roots derived from plants or fruits with alternative healing and medicinal components. Hot Teas can help sooth an itchy and scratchy throat. Did you know that "thyme" has been known to help relieve respiratory issues and to break up mucus? Below are just a few simple herbal tea remedies that you can make with very basic herbal ingredients: Lemon Herb Tea Take 2-3 cups of water and add to a boiling pan. Bring water to a boil. Take water from the boil and pour hot contents into a 8-12 oz drink mug. Take 1/2 half sliced lemon and squeeze the juice contents into the hot water. Add a few sprigs of thyme herb. Let the tea sit for about 2-minutes. Sip and Enjoy! Peppermint, Cinnamon and Lemon Tea Take 2-3 cups of water and add to a boiling pan. Bring water to a boil. Take water from the boil and pour hot contents into a 8-12 oz drink mug. Add your cinnamon sticks or you can use grated cinnamon powder. Also add peppermint leaves and squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lemon or lime into the your hot tea. Black Seed Oil Tea Black Seed Oil has many wonderful immunity building benefits. This wonder herb helps to detoxify the body and heal from within. Take 2-3 cups of water and add to a boiling pan. Bring water to a boil. Take water from the boil and pour hot contents into a 8-12 oz drink mug. Add 1 teaspoon of Black Seed Oil and stir well into hot water. Enjoy! You can have fun with your herbal tea mix. Use what you already have in your kitchen. The goal is to stay healthy this season and including plant based herbal teas can be beneficial to health and well being. Take Care and Stay Well! Step-by-step Instructions.4/4/2020 Nails Salons across the country have temporarily closed and it is causing frustration for locals who are accustomed to getting their nails and pedicures done on a regular basis. Due to the unfortunate events that have taken place. Clients, in particular, are wanting to know how to take off their Acrylic/Gel Full sets and Gel Polish. If you are currently wearing enhancements like Acrylic, it is probably best if you completely soak off your nails until your salon is up and running again. Artificial nails require routine fills and maintenance and if not kept up you can be subjected to the greenies better known as nail fungus.
Acrylic nails can be simply removed with Acetone. Acrylic Nails and Gel Polish are the only types of services that can be removed with acetone. Hard Gel polish requires more manual removal, like with a coarse grit nail file or by using an electric nail drill if the nails are layered thick. How should you remove your Acrylic Nails? 1. Fill up a glass bowl with enough acetone to cover the tips of your fingernails 2. Soak your nails in the acetone until the acrylic starts to break up and separate. If your acrylic application is thick, you may have to soak them longer. 3. After the acrylic has dissolved thoroughly, take your 100/180 grit nail file and remove the remaining acrylic. (This is also the time where you can trim your nails back with a fingernail clipper. The nails are often soft and flimsy after taking off Acrylics). 4. After filing with a 100/180 grit nail file, take your buffer block and smooth the nail ridges out of the nail 5. Wash your hands with warm soapy water to cleanse away residue and dust from buffing and filing the nail 6. Dry hands thoroughly and apply a nail strengthener 2-3 x per week to regain the health of the nail. 7. Apply daily cuticle oil to help keep the nail plate moisturized and the cuticles soft. We are living in era that can be quite unfamiliar to most and with many unexpected challenges that can affect the way that business is done in the service, wellness and health industry. With the evolving recent events, Nail Techs and Pedicurist are now aware that the business involves much more than putting on a set of nails and perfecting the steps to a pedicure. This industry must take advanced safety precautions to ensure that standard universal precautions are being taken to ensure that the health of the customer and the servicing provider are in the highest regard. PPE (person protective equipment) should be a priority for all Nail Techs and Pedicurist or anyone in the beauty servicing industry. Wearing gloves, using facial mask and disposable isolation gowns is the very basic preventative measure that should be taken. These basic items can be purchased online or you may be able to find them locally in your city at a DME (durable medical equipment) store in your area. Online retailers are excellent choice if you live in a rural area or prefer convenience. Getting a Manicure or Pedicure is still a wonderful treat and necessity for many and with these helpful tips...all is well! ______________________________________________________________________

With so many things to do, places to be and people to see--sleep deprivation can become commonplace for many these days. Service providers, in particular, need to make sure they are getting enough rest on a daily. Sleeping just makes sense! There is nothing honorable about not getting rest for the body and mind. In order to service others you must first serve yourself. In this era, it is easy to get caught up in the "Team No Sleep" anthem, but honestly this is not realistic and does more harm than good.
Resting helps keep the mind sharp, your creative juices flowing and helps to keep the bags from forming under your eyes. Taking a break and making sure to take a vacation away from it all is truly necessary. A vacation does not have to be something extravagant, It can simply be taking time off from your everyday responsibilities and doing what you like to do!Ever heard of a staycation? Become a tourist in your city or state. There are probably many places you have not visited in your home state and taking some down time to explore is just the adventure you may need! You have my permission to sleep in...you deserve it :) Are you getting enough rest? ______________________________________________________________________ The Traveling Pedicurist is located in the state of North Carolina. Ill fitting shoes can cause bunions, calluses, and permanent damage to your toenail matrix and cause permanent abnormal growth and thickening of the nail plate.
In our younger years, of course, we want to keep up with the latest in foot fashion, rightfully so, but there is a price you will pay later if the shoes you choose to wear do not provide you with the ultimate care of comfort. One way to care for your feet is to choose a shoe that is properly fitted for your feet. Many shoe retailers will provide shoe fitting services without cost to the consumer. Take advantage of this service. If you wear heels, purchase high heels that have extra padding and some area support in the front and back of the shoe. It is imperative that you do not try to squeeze your feet into shoes that are to small for your feet for the sake of fashion. Wearing shoes that feel good on your feet will give you greater comfort and will provide you with better walking ability. Besides wearing better shoes, there are other ways to pamper your feet. Rub them down daily with moisturizer and give yourself a good massage a few times a week to get the blood flowing. Treat yourself to a nice pedicure every so often. If you notice that you are starting to develop foot pain, make an appointment to see a Podiatrist. Ask yourself how far you can get in life without your feet. Answer this question honestly and hopefully you will begin to realize just how important they are. Take care! ________________________________________________________________________ The Traveling Pedicurist is located in the state of North Carolina. Questions? Sandal Season is finally here....yeaaaa! Summer time is when you get the chance to put away those uncomfortable winter shoes and boots in exchange for our beloved flip flops and sandals. This is also the time of year where everyone is looking to get their feet in shape and this usually means a much anticipated trip to the local nail salon. People love...love....love pedicures and rightfully so! To be honest there is not to much in this world that can match a really Goooood Pedicure :) Let's be clear, not all pedicure services are created equal and this often applies to the type of service and the skill set of the servicing professional providing the pedicure service. Most consumers don't really ask the right questions when looking for a reputable and qualified salon for their grooming and salon services. Since the topic is pedicures, this is what we will discuss. Given the title of this blog post, our focus in particular, is all about polish being applied to fungal nails. From a professional stand point, any Nail Tech or Pedicurist should always practice and provide service following proper sanitation protocols as provided by each individual state, but aside from that, a true professional service provider should also have a sense of integrity when servicing their customers and interacting with consumers. Fungus can spread from person to person and can also be spread if a Nail Tech or Pedicurist does not properly sanitize or sterilize their implements and equipment. Pedicures in particular, should be given much attention. The nail care industry is growing and with that said, Pedicures are big business and knowing how to safeguard your clients from potential infection should be a top priority. As Pedicurist and Nail Techs, we often service and care for individuals who already have health compromising situations, which makes it even more important, as professionals, to use our skill sets, awareness and proper protocol for each client on an individual basis. Back to the question on whether or not polish can be applied to fungal toenails. There are polishes on the market that tout having anti-fungal ingredients like garlic extract and tea tree oil to help manage fungus, but typically, it is not suggested that a person with toenail fungus wear toenail polish. Toenail polish can harbor moisture and further advance the growth and spread of the infected toenail. It's also not a good idea to try and "cover" up dark toenails or diagnosed fungal toenails out of embarrassment of what your feet look like. The best way to deal with toenail fungus is to accept it and put in place good practices to help get rid of the toenail fungus. Covering it up will only cause more issues. As a consumer another tid bit of advice would be to consider the quality of service versus cost. The cheapest pedicure in town may be saving you a few pennies, but, what should be the most concerning to you as a consumer is the skill set and sanitation practices of your Nail Tech or Pedicurist. Even though Nail Techs and Pedicurist can not diagnose any condition, A practicing professional should be able to recognize advanced stages of fungal toenails and from that point on refer the client to their Physician or Podiatrist. At the end of the day, it is totally at the discretion of the servicing Pedicurist to ensure that they are making the right decisions for their customers and for their business. The client’s best interest and health should always be the primary factor Have questions for The Traveling Pedicurst? Send them to: thetravelingpedicurist@gmail.com OR call: (919) 621-7027
![]() You've been dealing with stinky and itchy feet for a long time and you just can't seem to figure out what you can do to tame the smell and discomfort and now you're just frustrated... Does this sound familiar to those with stinky feet problems? We always recommend that anyone experiencing ongoing foot issues consult with a board certified physician or Podiatrist to get to the root cause of what is causing itchy and smelly feet. As a licensed Pedicurist we speak with client's who express these concerns regularly. Home remedies can be used to help manage characteristics related to flaky peeling skin, burning, and smelly feet. Holistic remedies should not take the place of suggested medical advice given by your Physician or Podiatrist, but there are some things that you can do immediately to hopefully help ease some of the problems mentioned. For starters, Vinegar Foot Baths feel good and is a well known holistic remedy for those seeking some comfort with peeling and itchiness on the feet. Fill up a foot basin with just enough water to touch the base of the top of your feet and then pour 2-cups of Vinegar into the water and soak your feet for up to 20-minutes. After you have soaked your feet, thoroughly dry the feet and pay close attention to drying in between the toes. Watch this 10-second YouTube video we created on how to dry in between your toes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrwYYisaJrw If you have been properly diagnosed with having foot fungus and wonder why you can't get rid of it after using topicals and orals; the culprit could be your shoes. Purchasing new shoes or thoroughly laundering the shoes you wear is crucial. Once you have worn a pair of shoes with active foot fungus your shoes are infected as well. In order to truly get rid of foot fungus, you must use your topicals or orals on a consistent basis and make sure your shoes are clean. You can use a Foot Powder or Anti-Fungal Spray to spray or powder the inside of your shoes as an added preventative measure. Wearing clean cotton socks each day of the week is also something that you need to do to ensure that your feet stay dry and clean. OTC (over-the-counter) topicals purchased at your local pharmacy or online is also another option that can be considered. Essential oils have been known to help fight fungal and bacteria infections and may help alleviate some of the characteristics of itchy, smelly and flaky skin on the feet.
